Institutional act of the Diada de Catalunya

As has been customary for 24 years, many poblatans gathered in the institutional act to celebrate September 11, the National Day of Catalonia.

Like every year, the act took place in the gardens of Casa Mauri, seat of the municipal council, at the foot of the allegorical statue of General Moragues, one of the greatest exponents of the fight for the freedoms of the Catalan people during the War of Succession. The Girona general, married to a woman from Pallares, after the end of the war was imprisoned, tortured and quartered, leaving his head handcuffed in a cage at the gates of Barcelona for twelve years as a symbol of punishment for the Bourbon victors.

After an introduction on the reason for the collection, there was an emotional minute of silence in memory of all the poblatans and people related to our town who have lost their lives this year. After the concurred floral offering, in which most of the poblatan associations participated, as well as the political parties representing the consistory, the mayor of Pobla de Segur, Marc Baró, addressed a few words to the attendees and the act ended singing “Els segadors”, Catalan national anthem.

Afterwards there was a popular aperitif enlivened by the good music of Cris I Dami, pallares duet.
